Terms of Service

Questions about these terms? Email support@getfamilyprotect.com or use our contact form.

1. Who we are and who can use FamilyProtect

You must be at least 18 and the parent or guardian (or otherwise authorised) for the devices you protect. By creating an account you confirm you own or control those devices and are entitled to install protection software on them.

2. The service

FamilyProtect enforces the protections you choose on your family's PCs and shows you their status. We work to keep the service reliable but provide it "as is". No filtering is perfect, some things will get through and some safe things will be blocked, and it complements rather than replaces your involvement as a parent.

FamilyProtect currently supports Windows PCs. We may add, change or withdraw features over time. If we withdraw something you rely on, we will tell account owners by email before it takes effect.

3. Free trial

New subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial. We ask for card details when you sign up, but you are not charged during the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends you pay nothing. If you do not cancel, the subscription begins automatically at the end of the trial and your card is charged. We email you before the trial ends.

4. Subscription and billing

After the trial, FamilyProtect is a rolling monthly subscription of $5.99/month, covering every eligible PC in your household, billed through Stripe. It renews automatically until you cancel. Optional add-ons are billed on the same cycle and can be cancelled separately. Applicable taxes may apply and are shown at checkout.

You can cancel at any time from your account and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. We do not charge a cancellation fee.

If we change the price, we will email account owners at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before it takes effect rather than accept it.

5. Refunds and your cancellation rights

The free trial exists so you can decide before paying anything, and you can cancel during it for free. If you are charged and believe something has gone wrong, contact us at support@getfamilyprotect.com and we will look at it properly.

If you are a consumer in the UK or EU you have a statutory right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days. Because the service starts immediately when you set it up, you may be asked to acknowledge that the service begins during that period; that does not remove your statutory rights, and nothing in these terms is intended to limit them.

6. Fair use and device limits

A household subscription covers up to 10 protected devices. This is an anti-abuse limit rather than a way of charging you more, and it applies per household. If you genuinely need more, contact us and we will raise it.

7. Acceptable use

Use FamilyProtect only to protect devices you own or are authorised to manage, and in line with the law. Do not use it to covertly surveil adults, or anyone whose devices you are not entitled to control, and do not attempt to disrupt, resell or reverse-engineer the service.

FamilyProtect is designed to be visible to the person using the device. It is not built or sold as spyware, and using it to monitor a partner, employee or other adult without their knowledge is a breach of these terms.

8. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. We recommend turning on two-factor authentication.

9. Cancellation, deletion and suspension

You may cancel or delete your account at any time. Deleting your account ends the subscription and removes your household's data as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms, is used unlawfully, or where payment fails and is not resolved. Except where the law or a serious breach requires otherwise, we will contact you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we end your subscription other than for a breach by you, we will refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to the fees you paid in the previous 12 months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and update the date above, and for changes that materially affect your rights or what you pay, we will email account owners before they take effect. Continued use after a change means you accept it.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in its courts. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, or of your right to bring proceedings there.

13. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Together with the Privacy Policy, these terms are the whole agreement between us about the service. You may not transfer your account to someone else without our agreement.
